You know when there is a trend that is sweeping the nation? It could be a book, or a song, or a movie – that thing everyone is talking about? I seem to always have a way of jumping on the bandwagon – but I have a special way of doing it. I like to wait until the bandwagon has passed all the way through town and is clear out of site. And then when it’s parked somewhere and everyone has gotten off, that’s when I hop on and start throwing a party for it. This is what has happened to us with Frozen. We received a free digital download from our generous employer back when it was so popular and winning awards – but that did not tempt us to watch it, oh no. And when we finally did watch it a few weeks ago, I was less than impressed. There was no way it could live up to the hype, and there was also no way it could live up to The Little Mermaid. But then we watched it again. And then I heard Brendan singing the snowman song while he was playing – and that was all it took for me to download the soundtrack. Then I realized I was listening to the music even when Brendan wasn’t in the car – then I caught DADDY listening to the music while he was working late one night. Then Brendan and I started singing “Love is an Open Door” to each other (some day we’ll capture a movie of us finishing each others sandwiches…), and now here we are in a full on summer Frozen frenzy over here.
So, we were beyond delighted when we received an invitation to Harper’s Frozen Birthday Party. Looking forward to this party was like waiting for a holiday in our house – Brendan would ask every single day if TODAY was the day Harper’s party. Finally, the day arrived. And since Harper is the “Princess Anna” and her big sister Olivia is “Queen Elsa”, we just couldn’t resist sending a little Kristoff in to wish her a happy birthday.
Brendan did not want to try the costume on, and said he didn’t want to wear it. I think the faux fur scared him. So we agreed that he would just wear it into the party so everyone would know he was Kristoff, and then he would take it right off (hence the non-coordinated shirt underneath…) but when he got to the party, he had no interest in taking it off. In fact, he wouldn’t even take it off for the ride home.
And let me tell you, while the movie didn’t impress us the first time, this party did not disappoint – there was an ice Olaf (done by a FAMILY MEMBER!?!? Excuse me?!?!?!), yummy food, an ice palace – and Queen Elsa herself even came to the party. She told her story and then did amazing face painting for all the kids!

Daddy and Brendan also had an amazing adventure while I went on my annual pilgrimage to the Renegade Craft Fair, but I told him he’s going to have to do his own write-up of that epic fun.
