I’ll bet ‘weekend catch-up’ is my most often repeated title for a post. I always feel like I’m trying to catch-up on the weekends – but we’ve had a lot of fun packed in to these weeks, for sure. I try not to forget any of the important stuff. For instance, Rob and I had been toying with the idea of putting away the pack and play, but I decided that I really couldn’t quite trust Brendan not to get into mischief while I was in the shower. This past week, I was getting ready by myself – and I let B wander around while I got dressed. From the other room I heard, “need heeeeeelp!”, and as I ran in, I found Brendan sitting on the chair at the computer desk. He didn’t need help getting up or down, he needed help getting the computer to play videos. That same day, I poked my head out of the bathroom just in time to see Brendan scrambling up our very tall bed, holding a calculator. He snuggled up in the pillows and went to work crunching numbers. I climbed in next to him and showed him how you can enter the numbers in order – 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. Then I stopped because there was no more room, so Brendan looked at me and said, ‘9!’. Such a smart boy.
Even though the doctor told us that we could stop warming his milk, (and in fact stop bottles all together), we still do both. He likes bottles first thing in the morning and last thing before bed, and doesn’t like cold milk. And if that isn’t explanation enough, then I have nothing else to offer. This morning as we went downstairs to get his bottle, he went straight to the cabinet and got the glass measuring cup out for me. Then he heard Chelsea pawing at the door to go out, and he said, “Puppy go outside?” in the same tone Rob and I use when we say the same thing. Then he went to the door and tried to open it for her. It won’t be long.
Just Brendan and I went down to see Grandma and Grandpa at their house. It felt like we hadn’t seen them in a while – and we missed them. What a nice day we had. It was a dream come true for Brendan, because we spent most of the day in their big back yard. We swept, we raked, we looked at birdies (including some special bird houses!), we gave his cars a car wash – and best of all, we threw rocks in the creek. Grandma had collected a whole bucket of rocks for her favorite Grandson, and a bunch of them were even her SPECIAL rocks. Anything for Brendan. He stood on a chair and threw them over the fence. We do this every time we are there, and each time, his arm gets better and better. This time he could aim for just where he wanted them to land – and some of them even made it all the way to the other side. When this happened, Brendan would excitedly yell, “Siiiiiiide!” When he got one in the water he would yell, “Splash!” He also played a little b-ball with Grandpa at the neighbors house and loved it, but they also had a football on their lawn. We explained that it didn’t belong to us, but he couldn’t stop thinking about that football. He kept trying to sneak up on it when he didn’t think we’d notice. So funny.
We went inside mainly for napping and eating. When it was time for his nap, he wanted to cuddle up next to Grandma, and then he called over and said, ‘Grandpa – sit down!” as he pointed his little finger to the spot on the couch right next to him. They didn’t seem to mind being ordered around.
And while he was eating, he sang the ABC’s:
He actually did even better than this, but I was too mesmerized to grab my phone.
He was done singing and ready to play, but at the 41 second mark, you can hear one of my other new favorites:
“Scooze me!” He excuses himself as he passes the dog, as he wants to get by mommy in the tent, and even when he is moving food over to see the cars on the plate. Adorable.
He found a little vase of flowers at Grandma’s house and took one out to bring over to her. Needless to say, she loved this. So she packaged up a little bouquet for him to take home. He held that bouquet for at least a half hour in the car. He held them, smelled them, picked off blossoms to hand to Mommy…he loves flowers.
Please excuse the quality of these phone photos shot over her shoulder as Mommy was driving.

A little more catch up from past weeks:
We had the Giant’s World Series trophy visit us at work – with one of the Giants players. Brendan and Daddy and I went to get our picture taken. The official Lucas photographer took our photo for us – she took lots of them! But the only two she has sent so far don’t have the trophy! Oh well…
That same day, his girlfriend was also in her Giants cheerleader outfit, and I snapped a few phone pics. And even though she wasn’t wearing the team colors, we let Charlie get in on the action too.
We also had a dinner picnic in the backyard, and somebody made cute faces:
And then one morning he fell asleep on the ride in, and stayed asleep on Daddy’s shoulder as we rode the elevator up to work. Look at this little face:
And here we are mostly caught up. I did get to have a nice breakfast with two handsome guys and a very handsome collection of beverages:
Now I just have to do the other catching up – the less important things like laundry and bills and grocery shopping.
