Getting the Tree

We’ve had our tree up and decorated for almost exactly one week. Since Rob and I travel for two weeks over Christmas, we realized early on that unless we get our tree set up Thanksgiving weekend, we don’t get enough time to enjoy it. We have always had our whole house decorated by the end of the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year things went a little differently… a little slower, (it took all weekend to finish what we usually do in a day), but also a heck of a lot happier. And I guess technically in past years I haven’t had a baby room to decorate…. so fun! I love to make Christmas stockings and was excited to make one for Brendan. It’s not one he’ll keep because it’s kindof funny, but I wanted to make something he would like this year. I used all kinds of funny textured trim and tiny bells (sewed on very tightly by hand so that they won’t come off when he gums on them). I’m guessing you can tell which one is his, but if you aren’t sure – it’s the one with the little heart that says, “B” on the toe.

Brendan loved looking up at the tall trees and the bright lights in the tree lot, and now that we have the tree up at home, he will throw his head waaaaaay back so he can see all the way to the top of the tree. He has started having his bottles in the tree room so we can snuggle by the fire with Christmas tunes playing in the background. We’re all getting pretty used to this. I don’t know what we’re going to do come New Year’s Eve. But I promise we won’t become those people who leave their decorations up all year long.
Well… I can almost promise…

It’s all so beautiful. A verse in Isaiah says, “…the oil of joy for mourning…” and that’s where we are this year, compared to last. Damn fine trade. I can’t wait to see it all, and meet the pooch.
