Fall Collection

Life has taken many twists and turns in the past months, and I haven’t been as good at recording all the things I never want to forget. This is just another don’t forget collection – like a little string tied around my finger.

He has so much to say these days – opinions on everything – in fact one night when I was trying to coax him to sleep he told me, “Mama I can’t have a quiet voice – I have too many questions!”. How do you say no to that? Brendan really likes the Mister Peabody and Sherman movie (love hearing him talk about George Washington, King Tut and The Trojan Horse) and he has now decided that he wants to be “a genius”. He has also taken to brushing his hair or ‘making himself handsome’ as he says, and when Mommy came in to stroke his hair and I always do he told me, “Mommy – you’re breaking up my work!”. He has also asked me at night as I snuggle in close, “Mommy – please don’t make my blanket hot.”.

There have been the quotes that still my heart – sometimes he tells me out of the clear blue, “Mommy – I love you so much”. There was the night his tummy hurt in the middle of the night. We sat in the bathroom together – he didn’t want to sit on the potty, but I sat on a little stool in the bathroom with him and he climbed right in for a nice extended hug. At a certain point Daddy came in to make sure we were okay and to take a turn – Brendan said, “Daddy – we already have the hugging spot set up for you!”. As a flashback to infant days, it turned out just to be some gas pains I think – but the next morning Brendan told Daddy, “When Mommy loves me it feels better”. Daddy said, ‘What about when Daddy loves you?’ and Brendan said, Yeah – that too”.

And now for the quote he will love when he’s in highschool…. he saw one of my bras sitting on the floor in my closet and he said, “oh mommy! it’s broken!” not knowing what he was looking at I asked what was broken and he said, “Your booby dress-up!”. So there you have it.

Back to his genius tendencies, Brendan has started tracing letters – both with a pen, and an iphone:

Plus he’s very snuggly:

Daddy was looking at electric cars, and Brendan and I played McDonalds with this toy in the Toyota dealership for at least 45 minutes. It’s hard not to put one on our Christmas list:

He tells great stories – sometimes the characters are played by his toes:

This weekend he has had croup – luckily so far we have avoided being anywhere near to an emergency room visit – but we have had to devise cleaver ways to keep an active boy from running. This one worked better than anything:

It has also meant late night rides in the wagon to get that cold wet air into his lungs. I told daddy that next I want him to bundle me up and take me for a ride in the wagon – doesn’t it look cozy?

It also meant that we missed a birthday party he was very much looking forward to. Mommy tried to soften the blow a bit with a quick cake.

No rain, no rainbows…
I hope that Brendan can always help us find the rainbows on any rainy day.
