The Weekend

This was a big weekend for Meredith’s family as one of her brothers was married in Kansas. I was lucky enough to get to see a few photos, and I know that Linda delivered part of the service, so I’m positive that it was a beautiful event. Congratulations to Patric and Paige! Enjoy your happily ever after!

This weekend involved no birthdays or weekends away for the Gianino’s. I was going to say no parties, but we did get invited over for quite the event at our neighbors house. Great group of people, amazing food (pizza on the grill, mascarpone stuffed peppers and a strawberry caprese salad were just some of the many wonders appearing there). Brendan stayed up WAY past his bed time, and didn’t fuss once. He loved getting passed from person to person, and sampling whatever food they were eating. Several people actually commented on the fact that he didn’t stop eating the whole time. It all goes to his height though… wish I could say the same.

Speaking of eating, this weekend marked another momentous occasion – the switch from formula to whole milk. Our doctor suggested going cold turkey, and I wanted to wait until a weekend so I could carefully monitor him. As is our custom, we took a movie of his first bottle of milk, and as usual – it was a completely uneventful video. He doesn’t seem to gulp it down like he does formula, but he doesn’t refuse it either. We’re still doing formula at night – I always want everything to feel safe and comfortable and familiar when he is on his way to bed. In still more eating news, our baby likes pesto. I was shocked, but perhaps I shouldn’t have been, this kid clearly has an Italian soul. I can’t remember if I mentioned it, but after his one year doctors appointment, we also tried peanut butter – no peanut allergies for Brendan – hooray! Green vegetables seem to be our only problem area – unless they are in a green smoothie, and then he happily slurps them down.

He just keeps changing in so many ways. He is loud and mischievous now. His loudness is particularly pronounced when we are in the grocery store, and his mischievous is at a height during meal time when he purposefully throws some food over the side of his highchair for Chelsea. They clearly have a pact. He also launches protests when he is in his pack and play. If we put him in there to take a quick shower, we come out to find every single toy has been thrown from the pack and play onto the floor. He is still taking steps in increments of wobbly threes – but he gets more and more steady when he is standing. Rob thinks he will be walking within two weeks – I say it’s closer to one. As much as he loves to fling toys and food onto the floor, he also loves to put things away. Of course sometimes his ‘away’ is creative… the blocks end up in the centerpiece on the coffee table, or in the laundry basket – but it is so cute to watch him carefully putting things where he wants them. He is starting to try and stack blocks on his own too. His hand isn’t always steady enough, but he knows what he wants to do, and keeps practicing. One day he also decided to start stacking whatever solid foods he is eating on top of his sippy cup. This cracked him up, which cracked me up – and now it’s standard mealtime procedure. I love to watch him come up with his very own ideas.

He got to swim in two of his pools this weekend and as soon as he sees them, all he does is point outside until he can get to them. At one point I was inside baking cookies and all I could see out the window were splashes of water launching into the air. He loves the water. I think my favorite moment of the weekend happened this afternoon. Brendan really needed a nap. He was in his crib, and things had been quiet for a little while when suddenly I heard what sounded like laughing. I walked closer to the door and when I realized it was definitely laughing I couldn’t get in there fast enough. There he was, standing in his crib, stomping his little feet and dancing to the music I had left on for him – cracking himself up. Cutest thing ever.

I posted some quick iphone photos of his various escapades this weekend, and here is one more movie. There is never a dull moment in this house.

Rob always tells me that when someone gives me a compliment, I can’t argue – I just have to say thank you. So thank you. =) I want YOU to start a blog so I can see all your latest photos and keep up with Leo! I think we’re coming out for labor day – hope we get to spend some time together.
