Forgotten Moments

As someone very dear to me pointed out, it has been a long time since my last post. She speculated that perhaps I was in mourning over the Uncles departure, and I am – but the lack of posting has been due to the increase in activity. Everything starts to heat up this year, and once again, we proved that we are THOSE people – you know, the crazy ones who put their tree up before Thanksgiving:

We got our tree Saturday, and it’s fully decorated today, along with the rest of our house. Thanks of course, to Brendan. He helped pick out the tree (and told us the one we got was the very best one of all), he helped decorate (and re-decorate) the tree, and this year – he is in love with the snow globes and music boxes. As I was sitting on the floor with him enjoying all the treasures, I looked at Rob and said: This is Christmas. And that’s why we put the tree up early – so we don’t have to rush through Thanksgiving, and we don’t have to rush through Christmas. It gives us more of the moments I want. The quiet ones.

Speaking of stars on trees, Brendan looked outside this past week and told me he saw a star – I asked him where he saw it since it was day time, and he told me it was at the top of the tree. I looked up and saw that on a nearly bare tree, one leaf still clung to the very top, looking like a star. It was a beautiful moment I would have missed if he hadn’t shown me. On the other hand, one day on the way to work he let us know that the mountain beside us was ‘too big’. That he wanted a ‘tiny mountain’ instead. He was very upset about this too big mountain. And rounding out our nature news, one morning he called me to the window to look at the ‘pretty clouds’. I got to the window and realized there wasn’t a cloud in the sky – perhaps he hears Mommy mention the pretty clouds more often than I realized.

Brendan has some favorite words/phrases right now. He often says that he wants to ‘go on an adventure’ (and we do go on lots of them – everything is an adventure if you look at it the right way). He also uses the word ‘many’ many times a day. There can be ‘many people’, ‘many cars’, ‘many grapes’. He has a favorite bridge, and it’s the Golden Gate Bridge. We learned this as he was crying his eyes out when we drove over the Richmond Bridge – “I wanna go on the Golden Gate Briiiiiiidge!!! It’s my faaaaaaavorite!!!!”. And he has suddenly fallen in love with superheros. Superman in particular, but Batman and Spiderman and even Wonder Woman are cool too. We have one toddler speed superhero book and the night we read it for the first time, it blew his mind. The second he got up the next morning he had to read his book – and when we told him he couldn’t bring it to school because we wanted to keep it safe, he went over and put it in Daddy’s work bag. Daddy downloaded the Superman theme that we have been whistling for him since he was little(r) and although I was not present for the first hearing, Rob said that Brendan literally cackled with glee. I was there, however, when Brendan was walking down the hall saying, ‘here comes Superman!’. And aside from the fact that it’s hard to keep his one pair of Superman Pajamas and his two Superhero shirts washed all the time, it’s a pretty awesome phase.

Daddy was thrilled that the In-n-Out burger by our house finally opened. He had been checking progress every week since they broke ground, so this was a big moment.

I was thrilled when Brendan helped me pick out flowers at the Farmers Market, and then carried them for me:

As a result, many couples get deprived of the joy of viagra on line australia experiencing an erection. Let’s proceed viagra samples in canada further and know the condition properly. Not only online levitra prescription is Freeze Dried Acai regarded the World’s Strongest Antioxidant.
He’s still in his Mama phase, and that doesn’t bother me one bit.

There are occasionally, signs that Brendan is two. After a particularly hard evening where he was just not able to make good choices, he finally had to go to bed without a story. He cried and cried in his crib, and that is always when Mommy has to be physically restrained to keep from running in. Finally I said to Rob, ‘lets not read him a book – but lets go in and just remind him how much we love him, and sing him a song.’ Rob agreed, and just as we were walking in, we heard (through sobs) “I wanna, (sniff sniff) make better choices!!!). We ran in and gave him a big hug and he told us again that he wanted to make better choices. We assured him that we KNEW he did. That we ALL make bad choices from time to time, but we can always learn and do better the next time. We hugged on him and told him that he is such a good boy and we are so proud of him. Then he agreed to brush his teeth (and actually did brush his teeth), and you can bet your bottom dollar that he got his story.

Then there was the day we went into school and Brendan said, “Where my baby?” We were puzzled and looked to the teachers. They let us know that all day he had been pretending that his striped sweater was his baby. He cradled his baby, and even kept his sweatshirt on so he could use it like a baby carrier and tuck his ‘baby’ inside. Apparently that baby was just a one day thing, but it was pretty darn cute. And in case you were wondering, his baby’s name was, “Brendan”, as almost everything is named when we ask for his input. I have to admit, it’s an awesome name.

And last but not least, Uncle Brian sent over this picture from one of Rob’s birthday celebrations. And really, shouldn’t “Robtober” stretch a little bit into November as well?

I will have more pictures of Brendan’s perfect ornament placement (and re-placement) on the tree, as well as other holiday merriment – but look! There is some fall in our town! Just in time for Christmas.

Uncles

It doesn’t seem possible that there was a time we didn’t know them. And yet I remember knowing the previous neighbors well enough to feel leery of new and unknown people moving in next door. I remember the day they moved in, Brian first. I remember the awkward feeling of not remembering which one was Brian and which one was Darin – wondering if I had even met both of them yet. I remember that they borrowed our tools, and returned them with a bottle of wine and some lemons from their tree artfully tied to the bottle. They were neighbors. We were friendly with them in that formal way you have with people who you share a neighborhood with, but nothing more.

Then it was baby time. And we knew we would be running off to Iowa at a moments notice, so we let a few of the neighbors know, and promised to keep them posted. I recorded their email addresses with “(neighbor)” following their names so that I would remember who they were. It was their mail back to us, welcoming Brendan, that started the first true cracks in my stranger-danger heart:

Alright! You make me sick! I’m disgusted! This is awful! I’M SO JEALOUS!! LOL.. What’s the saying? Baby Envy?

The story is so amazing! On all accounts, it seems like the most perfect story was written and has played out for all involved. We are so happy for you and looking forward to watching a whole new family move in next door!!

Brendan is the cutest baby ever!! Better looking than any baby ever was in mine or Darin’s families, nieces and nephews included.

Whomever took this shot should get an award…a million dollar prize for “priceless” and no other person should ever take a picture again as no picture will ever be better than this one!

OK… so, lot’s of amazing shots, and … thank you SO much for sharing with us! I think we feel all caught up on your life and feel like we’ve known you forever.

Brian

Then we came home, the three of us. We discovered that they had mowed our lawn for us. Rob and I spent blissfully tired months home all day with our son. And while my present self can’t fathom it, there weren’t any coffee dates with Brian, there weren’t any late night bottles of wine with the four of us glued to the image on the baby monitor of our son snuggled in upstairs. And then one day a homemade slider was passed over the fence. And maybe it’s true when they say that the way to a man (and woman’s) heart is through the stomach, because that was the next real crack around my heart. And it is the last one I can remember because after that all I know is that we had two uncles living next door. Two best friends. And food and babies being exchanged over the fence was an almost daily occurrence. And piggy back rides up and down our block, and spontaneous sprinkler parties, and times spent around one kitchen counter or the other sorting out whatever needed to be sorted.

And I recognized that this was an important piece of the life I always wanted, but never could have imagined.

And now they are moving. For great reasons, for Darin being recognized for all that he is capable of, and taking that next important step in his career. They have moved lots of times. They have friends dotting the globe. But that is not me – I’m the girl who has moved 3 times in 42 years. I am guarded about those I let into my inner circle. But you don’t have to be guarded with family. With people whom, very symbolically, we had serious talks with about tearing down the fence between our houses, or at least building a door so that we didn’t have to walk ALL the way to the front of the house when we wanted to visit. And when Brendan inevitably needed to ‘run away’ in his early teenage years, I was comforted, because I was certain he would run next door to the uncles extra bedroom – the one where we used to lay him, surrounded by a wall of pillows, after he fell asleep in Uncle Darin’s arms. And when we went to visit colleges with Brendan, I knew the uncles would be with us – or at home with the brown dog who in our absence was only comfortable at Camp Casler, or with them. And when we dropped our son off at his first dorm room, I was certain the Uncles would be waiting for us at home with a bottle of wine and a box of kleenex.

And people move. And that’s okay. We want to be both roots and wings for those closest to us. To have mature and unconditional relationships that recognize the fact that proximity is of little importance to matters of the heart. But I’m not ready for that yet. While I congratulate one of my best friends on an incredible and well deserved promotion, and I look forward to trips where we visit both Disneyland AND the uncles – while I remind myself that video chats are magical space healers, and that distance has only made the heart grow fonder and the visits more drenched in love and memories for Brendan and his east coast family – while I know that nothing will ever change the way we feel about the uncles, today I mourn our loss. In my restless sleep last night I pondered unsavory things like what Halloween would look like next year, or how to explain to Brendan that he can’t walk up and ring the doorbell anymore. That he can’t sit on the bench under our bedroom window and call out for Uncle Brian and Uncle Darin at the top of his lungs. I have come far enough in my life to trust that God has a plan. That everything happens for a reason. But without the benefit of hindsight, today my heart is too heavy from the loss of one of the important pieces that came together to create the life I always wanted. The one I never could have imagined. And again I’m grateful for the clarity to have lived in the moment, rather than waiting for hindsight to discover that this had been one of the happiest times in my life.

    Halloween

There was one thing Brendan was clear on: He wanted to be a ‘race car’ for Halloween. Lightning McQueen, to be exact. Starting in early September, whenever anyone asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween, his answer was always the same: “A Race Car”. He also wanted Mommy to be “a blue race car” or sometimes, “a princess race car”, and he wanted Daddy to be “a black race car”. How in the world do you made a race car costume? Well, I found a reasonable start to one on the internets. After it arrived, I spent several hours doctoring it up so that it was befitting of our favorite boy. I organized some “pit crew” costumes in the same red/white/black color scheme so that Mommy and Daddy could be his biggest supporters. We were ready. And as we started to get dressed… Brendan decided that he wanted to be Peter Pan. And the look on his face as he gazed at himself in the mirror, told me that even though I’m not a seamstress like my own Mom, it was the perfect decision when I followed my emotional Mom instincts, and whipped up that Peter Pan costume.

It’s all about the sword, really. Since I had not whipped up a Wendy or Captain Hook costume, it also meant no costume changes for Mommy and Daddy. Which was totally fine, because this was all about Brendan. He got it this year. We talked about trick-or-treating, we read books that featured trick-or-treating, but we still decided to pick a nice safe house to practice on first. We walked next door, and we knocked on The Uncles’ door….

    and we waited…

    Then we tried the doorbell:

And we started to think that nobody was home…

But finally, Uncle Brian answered the door (mid pirate transformation!). Brendan said, ‘tirck-or-treat!” and selected his candy. It’s hard to do with a sword in one hand and a pumpkin in the other!

And then it was on! We just had to figure out where to start.

We were heading out around the same time as some of our neighborhood friends, and Brendan was very excited to hit a few houses with them:

But then Brendan had an idea. He decided that he could cover more ground if he rode his BIKE around the neighborhood:

He insisted on carrying his pumpkin on his handlebars. This went on for a little while until Mommy saw the concerned looks on other parents faces as my tiny Peter Pan flew by. So we used the bike opportunity to hit one more special house:

    And then we went home.
We get A LOT of kids in our neighborhood. There are a lot of kids actually living in the neighborhood, but Rob and I swear they must bus kids in for Halloween. We bought over 600 pieces of candy, and had about 20 pieces left over. Rob and I have to bring in help to manage all these kids, plus a nervous dog, and now a full fledged trick-or-treator. He had a great night, and after he was done trick-or-treating, Daddy and I showed him how to dump out all his candy and sort it into ‘sames’. The Great Pumpkin also left him some little Halloween toys so that it wasn’t too tempting to eat all the candy. But the next day we put a special treat in his lunch – 4 M&M’s with a little note that said ‘Happy Friday!’. (and yes, that’s 4 actual pieces of candy, not 4 bags of candy….)

I loved watching my little Peter Pan enjoy his third Halloween. And we’ll just cross our fingers that another opportunity presents itself for a family of race cars.

    Wild Things

I know both where they are, and that they make my heart sing. One in particular, who if asked, will tell you that he is “2 and a quarter”.

My big boy was in the annual parade at school this week. The theme this year was “books” and each class chose a favorite to represent. The Teddy Bear class room selected “Where The Wild Things Are”, and were, of course, the cutest segment of the parade. (Side note: Grandma said that she would not have read me ‘a book like that with those kinds of pictures’ until I was at least four. I think this helps explain my aversion to scary books and movies.)

Brendan knows what parades are, and he knows that he loves them. On the day of the parade, he fell asleep just as we pulled into the parking lot and when I carefully lifted him out of the car, he woke up with a start and said, “I’m ready for the parade!!”, and then went back to sleep on my shoulder. The parade didn’t start until 4:00, so we had a little time. Grandma and Grandpa came up for the parade, and once again we proved that we are the crazy family by being the very first people waiting along the parade route. As other people gathered and chatted, I leaned over to Grandma and said, ‘knowing our son, he will be the very first one in line’, and as the doors opened, here is what we saw:

Teacher Regina proudly leading her pack of 21 wild things, lead by Mister Brendan Gianino. We were asked to dress the kids in all white (thank you for the leggings, Old Navy girls section!) and they suggested that we *might* want to dress them in something else, and pack the white clothes to be put on before the parade. I went with that option. And yet, in the ten minutes that Brendan wore the costume before the parade, he managed to emerge with dirty knees and bum. Frankly, I think it just made him appear more wild.

Some kids cried or became shy, some ran for their families – but not our boy! He held onto his rope and proudly lead that parade throughout the entire route.

After the parade, each class room had their own party and all the guests were invited. This picture is just for Meredith who warned me that kids did not want oranges at a birthday party – not even if they were supposed to be “wrecking balls” in the back of a dump truck. Oh yeah, Meredith? Look at that face!!!

And he even shared some with his girlfriend! He was such a good host, and shared with all his guests.

He also showed us how he could ‘roar his terrible roar, and gnash his terrible teeth’.

But then we went back to smiles.

I asked him to take a picture with Grandma and Grandpa and he was having trouble standing still until I asked him to show me his terrible roar one more time:

Then he wanted to show Grandma and Grandpa around the classroom. We saw some of his art, he gave Grandma a detailed description of the vegetable garden, and then we got on to the most important part of the room: the bikes. He showed Grandma and Grandpa how he can go “SO FAST!” on the bike.

It was an awesome parade, and each class was adorable – my runner up favorites were the “Where’s Waldo” class:

I wonder if Grandma would have approved of that book for those babies…

    Fairy Tales

Once upon a time, there lived a girl. All she ever wanted to be was a mother, but she knew that was not meant for now, it was meant for some day. In most ways, she lived a charmed life and was blessed with everything she could ever dream of. Still, she never felt quite like she was where she was supposed to be, and she never felt quite like she was who she was meant to be. The girl searched and searched for the meaning of life, feeling that if she could only find the answer, that maybe she would finally feel like she fit properly into her soul. She studied hard, but only ended up with more questions.

One day the girl was attacked by a mean and sneaky monster who took away her chance to be a mother, and the girl felt as if her life was over. But then her magical Fairy Godmother paid her a visit, and reminded her that sometimes the wishes you make with your whole heart really do come true. And that sometimes you even need the monsters in your life, to chase you into the place you are truly meant to be. So this girl finally found her one true son, and as his mother, she learned that her hunch had been right all along – because when this one missing piece was inserted into her life, the puzzle of who she had always been, and who she was always meant to be snapped into clear view.

And this was where the fairy tale began –

    Disneyland Days

I need a little more of this in my life:

Especially after a trip, I fall into the getting things done trap. Some of it is absolutely necessary, but some of it isn’t. And as the holidays approach, I have to work hard to remember that my most favorite times of all are the slow, quiet and simple times. Cramming more in does not always equal happiness. At least not for me.

Disneyland, however, was worth a little extra effort. We had a great trip, and I think Daddy felt very celebrated. In addition to Daddy’s birthday, they were also celebrating Halloween at Disneyland, and thanks to Harper’s Mom, we found a hidden treasure of Halloween Land. Minnie and Mickey were there – and Pluto – and Woody. It’s safe to say that Brendan loves the characters – and even though he had already met Mickey and Minnie, as soon as he saw them, he looked at us and said, ‘MY BOOK!!!!’. So Mickey and Minnie signed his book again – but this time, Mickey wrote, “Your Pal, Mickey Mouse” – and Minnie added some hugs and kisses, and even kissed the page before handing the book back to Brendan. He was wowed.

There were also goats in Halloween Land – something about pumpkins and goats just seem to go together. Even the goats at Disneyland are extra happy. There was a horse that was going to sleep as we pet him.

We spent a lot of time with our pals in Cars Land, where several times Brendan actually asked to have his picture taken:

We spent some time playing hide-n-seek in our room:

And luckily, we caught a couple parades, because as Brendan will tell you, they are his favorite:

We even found one adult moment. Brendan fell asleep in his stroller at nap time (once, the entire trip) and as we headed back to the room, we made a pit stop at the pool to sit in a quiet spot with some lounge chairs and a pina colada:

And then there was this moment – when Daddy asked for the camera and I told him there was nothing to take a picture of. That’s right Mommy, nothing but a fence and TRUE LOVE!

The entire commander cialis http://respitecaresa.org/cialis-7358 groin area should also be cleaned well, as this particular part of the body is likely to make it far worse. Kamagra Oral Gels are clinically approved by FDA for curing buy cialis overnight impotence in men. viagra viagra online Otherwise, the other company of the same medicine with same ingredient has been found with lowest cost for patent has gone off and nothing else, nothing to worry about the effect of the medicine.
And when we got home, we did more celebrating of Daddy’s birthday, or as the Uncles call it, “Robtober Fest”. This celebrating included homemade pizza and chocolate chip cookies, of course. And several gifts, one clearly marked:

(It was a clothes hamper. Don’t be jealous)

Brendan’s already saving his money for the next trip:

See that big pile of clothes? All too small. Somebody went on a growth spurt.

Now we move into Halloween. Brendan has decided what he wants to be, and what he wants Mommy and Daddy to be as well. We went to a pumpkin patch this weekend and Brendan got to go in his first jumpy house. It was a match made in heaven. And he will gladly tell you about ‘the big boy who take my hand and help me up’.

And even though I haven’t caught up on sleep, life is good.

    Favorite Moments

There have been so many great moments so far – Cars Land, the same ‘Disney Junior’ show that we saw at Disneyworld (that he perhaps enjoyed even more this time, if that is even possible), meeting all the characters and watching Brendan’s face as he gets hugs and autographs… But the best part of Disney is that it’s vacation land, and every attraction and every experience is designed to bring out the magic of happy being together moments. Everyone finds the Disney groove that works for them, and I’ll bet the memories each person brings home are at best 50% actual Disney attractions. My own memories from Disneyland as a kid are more about the new nightgown my Mom made me (white with light blue horses and a blue ribbon) and jumping on the bed in the hotel room. I remember taking the tram from the parking lot into the park. I remember holding my parents hands and feeling the magic.

This trip isn’t over, but I know one of my favorite moments will be when Brendan found a penny. He was so excited. We decided to put the penny in his pocket until we found a fountain and could use it to make a wish. I forgot about the penny as we did other things, and as I browsed in a shop, Daddy came to tell me that Brendan had found a fountain. I followed them out of the store, expecting to find a big fountain, but instead Brendan had found a tiny little fountain in a tiny little hallway. He carefully fished his penny out of his pocket,

and without being prompted this time, he closed his eyes and made a wish. A long wish.

Then he happily threw his penny into the fountain.

I wonder what my little man wishes for when he closes his eyes. I know that when we talk about what he is thankful for, often times it’s ‘presents’, or ‘Grandma and Grandpa’ or ‘race cars’ – and I know when he woke up in the night last night he asked for Chelsea. Maybe he wishes for more puppy kisses, or more running and scooters and bicycles and lots of balls for throwing. Or ice cream. But I hope sometimes he wishes for the same thing I do – that these moments will never end.

    Goodnight

After a nap, some pool time, and dinner in Downtown Disney, we are off to bed. Tomorrow we are waking up early to meet Lightning McQueen and Mater in Cars Land.

Our beds have a castle over them, and there is a switch (at Brendan level) that turns on hundreds of twinkling lights over the castle. I love Disney.

Mommy got a bad case of the flu, which doesn’t mean that the happy moments ceased to exist, it only means I didn’t take a lot of photos. Luckily, I am enough better to enjoy Daddy’s birthday. He actually believes in a whole month of birthday, but we’re kicking it off with a trip to Disneyland. I know… We just went to Disneyworld, but it’s hard to resist the perks of working for Disney, or the excitement of our son.

    Big Day

I want you to experience this moment just as I did:

    Woo-hoooo! Good job Brendan!

And as I was running down to congratulate my son, this message popped in:

Daddy and I both went down to visit and all of the kids were having their lunch, but we couldn’t find Brendan. It’s a good sized room, not big enough to lose a child – but we literally could not find him. Then we peeked into a hidden corner, and found our son. Instead of our usual greeting, we heard, “No come over here!!”. Before we could get sad, we realized that Brendan was working on his other business, and needed some private time. When he was done, we changed his diaper and told him how proud we were of his initial potty accomplishment. I said that if he went potty like a big boy, I would come right back down to visit.

Later in the day, I got this:

I ran down to see my big boy, and was treated to a room full of kids playing with shaving cream. Sadly, Mommy did not bring her camera.

I’m in no rush to get Brendan out of diapers. Changing his diapers has never bothered me, and they are pretty darn convenient at times. When he’s ready, he’s ready. So why the sudden interest? Sunday night Daddy showed Brendan how to “aim” at cheerios floating in the potty. Clearly there are things that girls just don’t understand, but I’m glad Daddy and Brendan can share these special moments. This morning Mommy put a few cheerios in the potty, and guess what? Brendan did it again. We are so proud of him!
    Now… who’s hungry for breakfast?

    The Peach

What an amazing weekend we had to celebrate Grandpa’s 80th birthday! It felt like we were a zillion miles from home, even though it was only a half hour south of San Francisco. We had the perfect little house that let us hear waves and feel the ocean breeze, cook meals when we wanted to, and enable Brendan to sneak in and wake up his Grandma and Grandpa. The best part of the trip was just being together, but here are some of the other memories that will always stay with me:

    – Mom’s spaghetti and meatballs. It was Dad’s celebration meal, but somehow I got to have my favorite meal (and take home leftovers!). Grandma also made a delicious Italian Cream birthday cake covered in coconut – and then she let Brendan decorate the top all on his own.

    – The weather. It was cold and drizzly until our last day (when of course, it was perfect out), but that made it extra fun to hunker down and cuddle inside. We got to enjoy the fire pit outside (which for Mommy meant one thing: s’mores). There was a huge deck on the house, and luckily Daddy thought to put Brendan’s bike in, so we made many laps around the house.

    – Somehow, even though it was Grandpa’s birthday, Brendan had a gift to open each day. I’m not sure whether the giant excavator or the giant light up stick was the biggest hit. We sent the stick home to be enjoyed at Grandma and Grandpa’s house (to spare our house and dog) but the excavator is one of his favorites and even takes a bath with him every night. Along the same vein, we brought Grandma and Grandpa their souvenirs from Disney World, and one of them was a puppet that Brendan picked out for Grandpa. It’s a dragon that was aptly named “Greenie”, and Brendan had so much fun playing with his new friend.

    – The beach at our house was a tiny one down some steep rocks – but it was so pretty to head down and listen to the waves. Especially while still in our pajamas. One morning Daddy was holding Brendan and a wave came up and splashed him – Brendan talked about it the rest of the trip.

    – One day we headed out to a bigger beach. It was freezing cold out, and close to nap time – and Brendan only let us put him down once to examine his excavator (moment documented below). At one point I looked around and Grandma was trying to build a sand castle, Grandpa was flying a kite, and Daddy was trying to get Brendan to “enjoy” the beach while I took pictures. So after a full 20 minutes, I laughed and declared that we were having ‘forced fun’ and that it was time to head home. He did enjoy the kite – it’s one of the things he always tells people about when he is talking about the trip.

    – While Brendan didn’t love the ‘official’ beach trip, he did love the pumpkin patch. It’s one of our two family favorites – and being there in early September meant that we had the run of the patch. Brendan spent enough time to pick out three pumpkins (two for him, and one for Grandma) and then he spent the rest of the time with the goats.

    – Brendan woke up at least once each night and wanted to cuddle with Mommy and Daddy, and just as he has done in the past, he woke us up by giggling upon the realization that we were all sleeping in the same room. It’s the absolute nicest way to be woken up. Even at 5:30 in the morning. With all the excitement, he didn’t nap as well either. In fact, he made it clear that he didn’t want to miss anything by climbing out of his pack and play for the first time ever. Rob and I heard a peculiar noise, and went in to find him pushing the pack and play around the room. We asked him what happened, and he happily showed us:

    over and over again….

    – We went out to eat a couple times, and Brendan was so sweet about sharing his food with everyone at the table. We discovered he has a love of oyster crackers (the kind you put in soup) when the waitress brought him a small pouch of them to snack on. He went around the table and handed an oyster cracker to each of us, even though it meant that he gave away his very last one. We thanked him profusely, and then got him another pouch.

    – Brendan thoroughly enjoyed his Grandma and Grandpa. It was all we could do to keep him out of their room until a decent hour (7:30) and he kept them busy from the moment they were awake. The first day we were there, Grandma happened to sit in one chair, Grandpa another – and Brendan sat in the chair between them. From that moment on, everyone was instructed to ONLY sit in those seats. If I had the audacity to try and sit in Grandma’s chair, I was promptly reminded that it was NOT my chair, it belonged to Grandma. Daddy and I took advantage of this connection to sneak off for a few moments and we found an amazing little beach where we will surely return.

    – Perhaps my favorite memory of the trip happened one morning when Grandpa was in the bathroom. Don’t worry, I’ll explain. The house had pocket doors throughout, and particularly in one of the bathrooms, it was very hard to close the door completely. There was almost always a little crack showing. I had successfully kept Brendan out of Grandma and Grandpa’s room, and suddenly I heard a very quiet, “Hi Grandpa!”. I went around the corner and found Brendan peeking through the crack – so excited that he found Grandpa.

Vacation takes time to get ready for, and time to recover from – but the memories sandwiched in between are the things that last a lifetime. Happy Birthday Grandpa! Thank you for sharing your birthday with us – we hope you enjoyed yourself as much as we did.

    Favorites

We are pretty into favorites around here. Brendan loves to tell us about his favorites, so I thought I’d share a few of mine.

First, we have a pet lizard. Technically he lives in the bushes out in front of our house, but he has clearly claimed us. We see this little teeny guy all the time, and this week we asked Brendan what he wanted to name him. Daddy suggested “Lenny” or “Lizzie” to which Brendan replied, “Nooooooo!” so we asked him what he thought we should name him. Brendan thought for a while and then proudly announced, “A cow!” so his name is officially “Acow the Lizzard”.

We went to the farmers market in San Francisco this weekend and Brendan will tell you it was, “So Fun”. We ate lots of yummy samples, got some supplies (i.e. cheese), saw a stunt airplane flying over the America’s Cup yacht races, and on the way out, got a balloon.

He also saw a whole bunch of bikes and actually asked Mommy to take a picture of him posing with them.

    * Please note the new shoes – they are the next size up, and Brendan LOVES wearing them. He calls them his “Superman shoes”. It should also be noted that even Superman needs to recharge his batteries:

Daddy takes a little longer to upload his videos, but this parade happened when they were home sick together:

US blogger Tessa Martin created a blog called ‘Ex girlfriend’s revenge with the subtitle ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’. levitra 10 mg http://twomeyautoworks.com/?page_id=75 canada viagra no prescription The YES mantra will awaken you to realizing how perfect your life actually is and how amazingly powerful you truly are. These disappointments and hilarious behaviour of generic tadalafil prices local Chinese made me realize that things are falling to pieces for me if I will start thinking that it’s all disgusting. This is the reason why so many cheapest price for cialis see for source men find it difficult to cope with impotence.
Brendan is also putting together his own choo choo train tracks, and lining up his cars. And counting to at least 12 – but he always seems to forget “six”.

Transitions are complete at school, so all the old gang is back together in the Teddy Bear room. Because Brendan is an experienced Teddy Bear, he has been helping his new friends learn the ropes. Particularly the ladies. I went over one day and Brendan had a harem of girls (Harper, Ruby and Zara) that he was herding around. He would figure out what they should do and then say, “come” as he gently ushered them over with a hand on their back. I have to say, they were thrilled to follow him around the yard – particularly Harper. She stood with me and waved to Brendan as he rode around on his bike. Then she went with me to try to catch him saying, “I’m gonna get you….!” She wasn’t quite fast enough to catch him, so after he lapped her once, I watched him slow down so she could catch him. Good move, buddy! I also walked in one morning and there was a keyboard set up. Brendan couldn’t wait to get to it. I think I witnessed the next pop group forming:

The uncles brought home an awesome pool for Brendan. It comes with it’s own slide, so we don’t have to get creative with the other slide half way in the pool anymore. It’s hard to tell whether he likes it…
We set up the pool in the front yard and several of the neighborhood kids came over to play. One poor little guy ended up getting a bee sting on his heel. We felt so badly that he got stung on his first time at our house. We didn’t want that to be his lasting first impression, so we whipped up a batch of chocolate chip cookies.

I think they were a hit, because later, this was delivered:

There are infinite moments, and almost infinite videos and pictures I could share – but I suppose there are a few other things I should get done during nap time. This week Grandpa will celebrate his 80th birthday, and we are all going to stay at the beach for a few days. Brendan loves to tell people, “I go to peach for Grandma Grandpa birthday!” It will be an exciting week for sure!

    Summer Continued

We rounded out our last official weekend of summer by crossing nothing off our chore list, and focusing solely on the summer fun list. We’ve made a bigger dent than I thought we would. Although we never actively tried to schedule things just to cross them off, it’s funny how just the process of making a list and keeping it on the fridge can help keep important ideas in mind.

One of my favorite things we accomplished was, ‘Paint Rocks’. Although, we did not actually paint rocks – we painted sticks. Brendan has really been enjoying picking up sticks when we go on our bike rides. He likes to hand most of them to me, but always chooses to hold one against the handle bar as he rides. When we came in the other day, I asked him if he wanted to paint his stick. “Yeah”, he said nonchalantly as if it was something he had been doing for years. We got out the paint and let me tell you, this boy paints a mean stick. Not wanting to let the creative genius wane, I brought over some rocks to paint. Brendan looked at me shaking his head back and forth with a silly grin and said, “Mooooommmmyyy… you no paint rocks…”. So we stuck with the sticks.

We also added something to the summer fun list, something we hadn’t thought of – we took Brendan to see his first movie in a movie theater! We saw Planes, and he was such a good boy. He really liked it and wanted to sit in his own big boy seat. He needed to take one walk right in the middle, and a couple times he asked me if he could get up to look at the tiny lights on the wall, (of course he could… as long as he came right back. which he did.) but other than that he sat enthralled by the experience. As we bought our tickets, I told the young boy helping us that it was his first movie – he smiled and told us to have a great time. When we were just about to walk in, we heard someone calling, “Sir! Sir!” and as we turned around, the boy had run after us. He handed us a special ‘Planes’ pin and said, “Since it’s his first movie, I wanted him to have this”. It was the pin he wore on his shirt as we walked in, but he wanted Brendan to have it. Sometimes I really love people. As we left the theater, Brendan held his arms out like wings on a plane and ‘flew’ out to our car. In my book, that means a successful adventure, though he did tell us later that it was, ‘too loud’.

Grandma sent a special package for Brendan this weekend – it’s a book with all kinds of cars and trucks and things that go, and I figured she sent it because they are starting a special series at school on that topic. It has many different doors to open on each page revealing fun hidden pictures. I knew he’d like the book, but as we started to read it, I realized that Grandma had added her own special magic and added pictures of all Brendan’s favorite people so he could find them hiding in the doors.

We went to one of our favorite breakfast spots this morning, and sat at the table where I snapped one of my favorite pictures of Brendan. Luckily I had my camera with me again. (You’ll notice that toward the end, he not-so-subtly told me he was done with pictures.)

He is suddenly making another huge developmental leap – his focus is getting better, and this weekend he really started putting his puzzles together – and also hooking up his train tracks all by himself! He even matched all the truck cabs with the right color containers. And oh my goodness does he ride his trike fast! Mommy has to jog to keep up with him, but if he gets much fast we may need to get bikes or wear roller blades. Heaven help us. We took several long walks – one to the store where we parked the trike and got a treat to enjoy at the outside tables before we headed home. He talks and talks and says anything and everything. He has stopped waking up in the middle of the night, but is still waking up at 5am every day. It’s a good thing he is so cute. He always wakes up by yelling “Moommmmmy! Daaaaady!” over and over until we come in. This morning we tried to yell back in that it was too early. There would be silence for a few seconds, and then the “Mommy Daddy” would start again. Finally I asked him what he needed and he said, “I need you to come in my room!”. So I caved. I think true love must equal the person whom you are happy to see when they wake you up at 5am. Tonight he ate a giant dinner (a whole peach, a whole nectarine, 2 soy hotdogs dipped in ketchup, several slices of cheese, two strawberries, and 8 ounces of milk), and is wearing his first pair of 3T pajamas, so I’m hoping this might be the magic equation to get us back to a 6:30 wake up call.
