Catch-up

The weather has been very spring-like this weekend, so we spent a good part of the morning outside. Armed with only his two paint brushes, Brendan went on a bubble hunt.

He narrowed in on the source – many of them seemed to be coming from this octopus character.

Each day he continues to amaze his parents with his new skills. Some highlights this week:

  • After several mornings with crazy tantrums (crying for his ‘baba’ then throwing it across the room when we gave it to him, then once again crying for the bottle…repeat, repeat, repeat…) we finally got wise and switched things up. We now come in to greet him in the morning with bottle in hand. This has made for a much more peaceful start to the day. The first day we tried this he held his own little happy parade, marching in his crib – and in case we missed it he said ‘MARCH!!” I should also give Chelsea credit – on our last tantrum morning, she went over to inspect the bottle that had been thrown on the floor. Brendan saw her do it and yelled, “MINE!” and then began drinking his bottle. Genius, Chelsea… we appreciate it.

  • Brendan is starting to string words together, which makes it even more fun to see what he will come up with. Some phrases that make regular appearances in conversation include, “I see a bus!” (or guy, or puppy, or daddy, or ‘meow’ or whatever he happens to see). He also often announces “COLD FEET!” when his bare feet hit the cold kitchen tile. And one that particularly impresses me – when we say, ‘You did it!!’, he responds with, ‘I did it!’. The kid knows tense. I’m not saying he’s a genius or anything, but infer what you will.
  • He is also a much more active participant than he used to be in Chelsea’s mornings at the park:

Other than that, we get outside as often as Mommy and Daddy will allow – and if we don’t get the hint, somebody hands us our shoes.

If you have to ask why Mommy is wearing a tiara, then you probably don’t know me very well.

Happy Weekend!
