Eight Years Ago

This was us, eight years ago tonight. Our first dinner as an engaged couple.
Rob had popped the question on the balcony of a cruise ship leaving New Orleans. He gave me a journal he kept for all the secret days he spent planning the proposal. I had called my friends and family to squeal the news, and we sprung for a really nice bottle of champagne for dinner as we talked about all our hopes and dreams. And now…. here we are. In case you can’t hear me, I just let out a nice contented *sigh*. I’m a lucky girl.

P.S. I love how my ring is ‘casually’ displayed in this photo. And even more, I am so appreciative that my husband not only knew the perfect ring to select for me, but further knew that if I had to pick my own, we’d still be shopping. I’m also wearing the necklace Rob gave me the first Christmas we were dating. He meant it to be the ‘big gift’ – the one that knocked my socks off. But it wasn’t. My favorite gift by far was a bottle filled with dirty water. It was the snowman I (a snow-less California girl) had built with him on our first trip home to Boston. I was sad to leave him behind, so Rob secretly packaged him up and gave him to me for Christmas. That may have been the moment I truly knew I would marry him.

You are in every way (that I know of so far) the best, not merely the best we could do at the time!
Now, get busy and find me a loving husband or a lucrative job.
