We went for a family walk this evening, and somebody picked a flower just for Grandma.
Then we continued over to the park behind our house and played with the big kids for a while. Chelsea was a hit too – I think Brendan was proud that she was his dog. I played a game with Brendan that had him cracking up – I would say “GO!” and take a few quick steps pushing him in the car – then I would say, “STOP!” and stomp my feet as I came to a quick stop. He was laughing so hard, and his voice is still a little raspy from croup so it was particularly cute. I know, there is always some reason why it’s particularly cute. I can’t help it. I think I’m becoming my Mother… heaven help us.
It was so good to see our boy smiling and laughing like himself again. Each day he is taking more and more steps in a row. Tonight he did about ten, stopped – and then started up again and did about 5 more. Hard to believe that soon he will be a full fledged walker. His favorite pastime for now is taking our fingers and going up and down the steps. We count each one as we go, and celebrate at each landing. We have 16 steps, in case anyone was wondering. I know each of them intimately. He is also still taking great joy in putting things where they belong (he now replaces the cap on his bottle when he is done) and tonight he really did help me with the laundry. He stood at the washer and pulled the clothes out so I could put them in the dryer. It won’t be long before I can sit back and eat bon-bons while Brendan does all the housework.
