We had our six week check-up today, and the little man is up to 10 pounds 2 ounces! He is also 22.5 inches long (up 3/4 from 3 weeks ago) and his head is 14.25 (also up 3/4). If his head keeps growing at the same rate as his body, we could be in for an interesting overall shape going on.
He was so charming at the doctors office. I don’t know if it’s the big mirror where he can really get a look at himself or what, but he was all smiles and coos – more than he has done in his 6 weeks of life. He started when it was just the two of us waiting, but he continued when the doctor came in – for a good 5 minutes. She was clearly wooed. Then suddenly he got a little fussy, and the doctor said that after all that entertaining, it was obvious why he got tired!
And then came the shots… one was just a little potion he had to drink (which he did like a champ) – but the other three were in his chubby little thigh. The nurse warned me that he would cry. And he did. It was a delayed reaction just long enough for me to think that maybe he wouldn’t – but then he let it rip. He calmed down pretty quickly after I got to pick him up. Poor baby. I explained to him that he won’t always have to get shots when he goes to the doctor, and that nobody really likes shots – but that they will protect him from all kinds of yucky things. Did I miss anything?
We were warned that he might be a little cranky last night, and yes – he was. It seemed like he just couldn’t get comfortable. But now he is having a nice snooze and seems to be feeling better. Shots are no fun.
Here are a few pre-shot pictures. I really wanted to whip out the video camera and capture all the entertainment, but I thought the doctor might not find that cute.
