Unlucky 13

Do the boys look tired here?  They should.  We had our first tough night.  Not our first night without enough sleep, we’ve had plenty of those – but Brendan clearly had gas pains and was fussy.  We felt so bad for him, and tried anything we could think of.  Daddy had the touch last night, so he bore the brunt of the comforting.  We’ve been using the Dr. Brown’s bottles, but today we are also doubling our burping efforts.  If anyone has any tips or tricks, please feel free to leave a comment!

Ugh. Its so hard to see them uncomfortable and not be able to make it better! Try laying him on his back and gently ‘bicycling’ his legs, and alternating that with holding his legs together and pushing them toward his belly like he’s trying to put his knees to his chin. It can take quite a while to work, but it seems to help get their little systems moving. Sometimes you might also find that the motion helps soothe him, but as soon as you stop he’ll be uncomfortable again. Be prepared to take turns!

Another thing to try is some tummy massage that can help get things moving as well. I won’t try to describe, but I’m sure you can find diagrams, etc. online. Look for the ‘I Love U’ tummy massage, which is one that follows the path of their digestive tract and can help keep things moving.

Hope that helps a bit or at least points you to something helpful.

    xoxo
