Day 9

Day nine had some really nice moments. Like this morning at breakfast when a woman who is a hotel guest came over to tell us that she could just feel the love radiating out from our family. We told her our story and she literally burst into tears. We have been surrounded by incredible people everywhere – including a young mother who works at the hotel. We met her the first time we stayed here, and have gotten to know her during this trip. Today was her birthday, and she decided to bring us her video baby monitor that she no longer needed for her 2 year old.

We have tried out 5 different bottles trying to find the one that Baby B likes best, and today I think we found a winner. That makes me happy.

There was one first that I knew would come one day, but I was not looking forward to it. Today we had to call the nurse hotline. This afternoon Brendan looked like he had a little sleep in the corner of his eye, but then when he was napping, we noticed it had pooled into a pretty good bunch of goop. We called right away, and as she asked if his eye was red, we realized that his eye was pretty much crusted shut. POOR BABY!! Some warm compresses and a call from the doctor later, he’s fine. No infection. Just a blocked tear duct. They usually clear up on their own. But I will admit that I got a little light headed when we were cleaning it up. I had to stop myself and realize how lucky we are that a blocked tear duct is our biggest health problem at the moment. Even though it’s no big deal, I don’t want anything but the best for this little guy every moment of his life. And all I want for my birthday is for it to clear up right away. (note: the pictures in the full album were taken in case the doctor wanted to see… not for posterity)

One other important note: Rob and I continued our healthy Iowa eating habits by trying Sonic for the first time today. Wow. How are we going to keep from going back?
