Since this was the first real Sunday we were back from Iowa, we decided to surprise Grandma and Grandpa Casler (and everyone in the congregation!) by showing up at church on Sunday. We were a few minutes late, but arrived to a very warm welcome. Auntie Nelly even ran out to the parking lot to get the first hugs. We didn’t mean to be disruptive, but we were asked by Jon (the minister) to stand up and parade Brendan down the aisle so everyone could have a look at him. After church, people were literally lining up to get a few seconds to hold him. Bren was a trooper. He even went down (with Mommy) for his first children’s sermon, but then he snuck out with Daddy right as the adult sermon started. After his bottle and a poopy diaper, he was awake and charmed all the people who have been so excited to meet him. Grandma and Grandpa said that next to the time we surprised them by showing up in Utah, this was the next best surprise ever. I’m pretty sure they love him.
It’s amazing to think that I was carried into this same church for the first time when I was his age, and then many years later married Rob at this very same place. Lots of special memories with special people in those walls.
